January is a time of new beginnings, but also a time of reflection. As we dive full steam ahead into new and ongoing projects, we wanted to also take the time to look back to 2017: what we accomplished, where we went, and what our challenges and successes were. And of course, we wanted to share that with you.
Here were our big takeaways from last year:
KIPAC, Drupal 8 theme, and the Embrace of Drupal 8:
2017 was when we fully embraced the possibilities of Drupal 8. We launched our first Drupal 8 site for KIPAC and learned a lot in the process. We also developed a Drupal 8 theme based on the Stanford Light theme from SWS... the new theme is called Fibonacci Light :)
Cardinal Service and the Re-emergence of Wordpress:
As excited as we were by new developments in Drupal, we were just as stoked to get re-acquainted with our old friend Wordpress. While we love developing in Drupal, Wordpress is a robust and flexible tool that is just perfect for some sites. Luckily this year we had a project that was a perfect candidate: Cardinal Service! This site is centered around stories and opportunities, and our main focus was twofold: design and editor experience.
The Wordpress social media plug-ins as well as some import and export plug-ins and features (like the WP All Import plug-in and the Modern Tribe Events Calendar) enabled us to leverage existing technology and content to tell a diverse and effective story about the program.
Blended Classroom in Support of Maternal Health:
Working with the California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC), we developed a bleanded classroom learning system to support them in teaching nurses and other providers across the state about supporting mothers in labor. We started with the Opigno Drupal-based LMS, a robust open-source tool. From there, custom configuration, a custom module for registration flows, and custom design gave us a unique and feature-packed blended classroom focused on helping busy health-care professionals improve their skills. We haven't launched this one just yet, but check out our write-up and stay tuned!
Google Style Image Gallery for CARS
For this project, UX was the name of the game. Google Image search served as our design and functionality inspiration in developing a custom image gallery for this client. The galleries expanded and collaped just like Google's, and allowed users to flip through easily. This convenient navigation, paired with the ability to showcase all images on one page and easily zoom in on the selected image, created a dynamic, active, and functional user experience.
Productivity Tools
In 2017, we focused on making work as easy and efficient as possible for our clients. These projects were built to improve workflow and help passionate people do what they do best.
